1000th Comment Contest Rules
Contest Rules: No purchase necessary. Not valid in West Virginia, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Finland, Ukraine, Manchuria, Wales, or Brazil. Void where prohibited. Prize winners will be notified by mail, in a document written in Swahili which includes further instructions on collecting your winnings. Payment of taxes, fees, and shipping are the responsibility of the contest winner. Winner must show identification proving that their first name does not begin with a consonant, and that they do not have a name that places an "e" directly before an "i" (even if it's after a "c"). Relatives of Omar and prior omarphillips.net contest winners are not eligible. Employees of General Motors and At-A-Glance and their extended family members are also ineligible. International contestants must be from a country that has only one A in the official name (not zero, not two, ONE). A contestant will be ruled ineligible if at any time between 7/12/2005 and the date of the 1000th comment, they:
-post more than 3 consecutive comments
-post more than 5 out of any 10 consecutive comments
-post more than 100 total comments
-post less than 10 total comments
-tell omar "you suck"
-have been convicted of a crime (misdemeanor or higher)
-have seriously considered committing a crime (misdemeanor or higher)
-eaten a salad for a meal
-called omar by a nickname he didn't like after he already said he didn't like it
-sniffed a dry erase marker for pleasure
-saw omar in person
Good luck to all omarphillps.net commenters!

Looks like I'm not eligible. Don't bother asking me why, I'll just plead the 5th.
OK, OK, I'm the CEO of General Motors. Are you happy now?
MEP said:
Is ANYONE eligible?? Or was that the point? ;)
RaJ said:
But Omar, what happens if the 1000th comment is posted by an ineligible someone?
onj said:
I don’t know, the rules seem pretty loose to me. I came dangerously close to being DQ’d before with my back to back comments (although I would like to point out that I had an internal (and by that I mean I got click happy) error and it was really just the one comment posted twice). Of course, I did have to change my name just to be eligible, but come on, that’s a small price to pay for a sweet desk calendar.

Total crap. I recently proclaimed this the "hottest site on the net" and you're going to rule me ineligible for your contest?
I call shenanigans!
Sam said:
It's a good thing I read this BEFORE lunch so I could get a hamburger instead of a salad...it IS EatTotalCrapAfterBeingGoodAllWeek Day after all.
You're hilarious. Why haven't I linked you yet? (note to self)
Have a rockin' weekend!

I almost sold my car...I was that sure of winning (don't ask me why) and then you went ahead and rendered me DQed!!! not because of the two As in my countrys name, but because I had a salad for lunch :|
Cate said:
Crap. Ineligible 3 times over. Omar, you suck. Make that 4 times over.

dammit. i'm out for so many reasons. i liked it better when you were giving out op.net sportsbras.
Sam said:
Wheeee! So many ifs, I have to keep readin to make sure I didn't forget...hee.

OOoooh I still qualify. Where are you getting the funds for this prize n-e-ways? just wondering cuz I may want to do this myself and having an idea of private investors, secret slush funds or sugar person soon to die to pay for such a thing would be a good start :)

Two general comments. First, it was the legal team that put this together, not me. Second, I think it's perfectly fair. There is a lad named Alastair in England who is 10 comments away from having his dream car. Abby, in Scotland. Ellen in Montana. Onj from California.
adam - CEO? You've been busy since graduation!
MEP - See the second general comment above. There are plenty of people who could qualify.
RaJ - Kind of like when the lotto numbers don't get picked, the prize will roll over into the next contest.
onj - The name change will definitely be worth it if you win the calendar. And the H2 too, I guess.
Book - If I give one person I know an H2, then everyone is going to want one.
Sam - That was close, on the lunch. However, unless "sam" is short for "Asamantha," you don't qualify on the name starting with the consonant thing. It's the lawyers, I'm sorry. I hope it doesn't affect the prospect of linking this site! And thanks, have a good weekend yourself!
A - Salad. I actually thought that was one of my legal team's best restrictions. Salad (with the exception of taco salad or fruit salad) has no business being a meal.
cate - I know 3 of the 4 things that make you ineligible... What's the fourth? Have you been convicted of a crime?
cadiz - I felt a little sad inside when the lawyers said that previous winners were ineligible, because I knew that would rule you out.
amber - Amber, your profile says you're from canada? Sorry, 3 A's.
Sarah said:
I realize I've become ineligible, but perhaps you'd consider letting me stay eligible since I only want the Hummer...?
amber said:
missed that part and I'm here now but originally I'm from Saturn, only one A.
madman said:
Ithink that my comment will be under amber....which will be weird...but I am madman....
I think based on all the rules, I'm very out....To many problems....Australia is one of them....3A's, in everyones face.

Can we post that someone besides Omar sucks?
Scared Bunny Blog – Yes, it’s offensive!
cadiz12 said:
it is sad, omar. but i can use my tears to polish the 500th comment plaque i already won. maybe you can put that up again someday for old time's sake? i like the way my name looks in cursive.
Syar said:
i already am ineligible. malaysia has two A's. damn the forefathers. damn!!
Syar said:
and damn me for miscounting the A's in Malaysia. is it just me, or am i just rendered stupid everytime i comment on your blog? don't answer that.
RaJ said:
I dunno Syar, but I think "The Country Where Syar Lives" (i.e. the real official name of where you're from, official-looking documentation available on request) meets the "one A" requirement.
Amber - this works for you as well.
Cate said:
Four reasons I am ineligible:
My name starts with a consonant
I have called omar by a nickname even after he said he didn't like it
I have eaten a salad for a meal
Above reasons caused me to say "Omar, you suck." (If I say it again, does that mean I'm ineligible five times over?)
jasmine said:
so because i'm ineligible, just like everyone else (except for onj in california...which, btw, make me want to laugh out loud, but i'm in the library and there's a hot guy next to me and i don't want him to think i'm weird, so i've had to hold it in...deep breaths, deep breaths....)
what was i saying? i dunno. since i can't win i don't feel bad i fucked with the integrity of the poll. again. boo yeah!!!!
I said:
sarah - After careful consideration, no.
amber - Stay away from the salad and you've got a chance!
madman - Sorry, man. But are you legal to drive anyway? That H2 would have just been a tease.
RU - Saying that everybody else sucks would not affect your eligibility. Only omar.
cadiz - Actually, it was the 250th comment. It really was that long ago.
syar - For this contest's purposes, 2 A's are the same as 3 A's. So don't feel badly.
RaJ - I'd have to see the "official looking documentation." I applaud the seeking of a loophole, though.
cate - Good to hear that you're not getting locked up. And yes, saying it again does make you more ineligible.
jasmine - onj made me crack up quite a bit also. Luckily, there were no other hot guys around me at the time.
Nadia said:
No no no no NO! Even if I change it to 'The Country Where Nadia Lives', you know, it's real officially documented name, I'm still not eligible.
Dammit.
No, wait! Are nicknames acceptable? 'The Country Where Nadz Lives'.
Think about it.
