Dear Blogger,
Blogger, I don't know how to tell you this, so I'm just going to say it:
I'm breaking up with you.
It's not you though, it's me. Really, you've been great, and I've had a great time with you. But I'm a technology guy, and I like to have total control. While your ease of use is unmatched, you don't allow me to have the level of control that I desire.
Please don't be upset. I am not leaving all together, I am still keeping my Blogger account to use for commenting on other people's blogs. The vole animations will remain (and will continue to periodically change) on other people's sites.
I know this may be hard to hear, but I am moving in with Movable Type. MT lets me own the comments on my site, and it gives me a little more template flexibility. It lets me run everything off of my own site, rather than relying on your server.
But this isn't about Movable Type, this is about us. Blogger, I will always remember you as my first. And I hope in time, you'll be able to focus more on the good times we had than on this moment.
And while I don't expect you to wait around for me, if I decided to create another blog in the future, I will likely be back. Hopefully you'll still have me. I don't want anything to be awkward between us in the future, like if we run into each other at a party or something. I will totally still say hi to you and ask how you're doing.
So while we are breaking up, don't think of this as "goodbye." Think of it more as "see you later."

Yeah, so pardon my dust as I do a little reconstruction.
There were several reasons, the biggest being that it would routinely take the better part of 10 minutes to publish my blog. It's kind of big, and it only takes longer because it is not stored on blogger's servers. It was getting to be too much to handle.
I'm still working on moving over some of my old posts/comments. Links to any old posts should still work in the mean time.
I said:
Oh, and also, an email address is NOT required when posting a comment. Not sure if URL is either, actually.
And anyone who relied on the site feed before (like with bloglines or something like that), this may have screwed things up a little bit, showing duplicate posts. Again, sorry about that.

But you're still here, right? You're not leaving or trying to break free or making it easy on us, right? Because I don't think I could handle it. I think I would just lose everything I know - my mind's long gone, but the rest of me? Well, it sometimes exists.
Okay, I'll try to be strong. Change is difficult, but I know we'll be better people for this decision.

yeah! for indirectly being the subject of a poll. i'm gonna vote from school again just for the irony of it.

Woo hoo!
I've been thinking of leaving too... You give me courage!

also, i'm jealous of your calendar. i want one.

you'll still be posting right? we're just looking at a ....change of addres, right??! *breaks into mild panic* i'm taking that last line to heart. *breaks into less mild, more ranch-style panic*
also, i want your calendar.

"You- you're breaking up with me? With US?! BwawWaaaah!"
We now return you to your regular social and self-esteem destruction.
but - but - but...

I am amused to see that I am in the MINORITY as I voted that I had NOT attempted to screw with the statistical integrity of your polls. But the important thing here is that I have not.
Syar said:
the comments are a bit wonky, omar. i have jazz's comment under my name and she has mine under hers. would never want to take credit for someone else's sparkling wit to make up for the lack of wit on my behalf. thought you should know.
Syar said:
and after that comment i realized that the names are at the bottom now. *is utterly and truly embarassed* double blow, first the rejection, now this? much sadness.
Glo said:
But....but....I still need reassurance that you're not going anywhere!!!

You REALLY need to setup TypeKey. All the cool kids are doing it and you don't want me calling you grandpa do you?
Glad to see you got mt working. I really wish they'd write better directions as it's fairly simple to setup but they make it sound so tricky.

ooh. newfangled.
for some reason i imagined this post as omar standing on a corner with a bullhorn breaking up with a big brick blogger building. like those beer commercials.

Congratulations on leaving Blogger. This Moveable Type stuff all looks new-fangled and futuristic. Sometimes new-fangled and futuristic things scare me, though.
I remember back when everything was in black and white and we listened to the BBC World Service on the wireless. There was none of that text messaging that you young people use; all we had was a transmitter with a tone that we tapped Morse code out on. Luckily, anyone with a receiver could hear the message, so an attempt to make a booty call resulted in the entire neighbourhood's women turning up for a night-long tryst of immorality.

Leaving Blogger, eh? It happens to everyone eventually. I'm just biding my time. Go move some type, buddy.
I said:
Had I known leaving Blogger would generate so many comments, I would have done it months ago!
And while I am leaving Blogger, I am not leaving blogging. Same address, same witty content, same charming author.
X - You crack me up, man. Broadcast booty-calls.
cadiz - You imagined it correctly, that's exactly how it went.
scroob - The type is being moved as we speak.
glo - I am NOT going anywhere.
glo again - Really, I'm not.
syar - Yes, still posting. There isn't even a change of address. The address and content are the same.
Viking - I like the change so far, but I'm sure there are some bugs I haven't found yet.
MEP - Thank you for being one of the honest few. Honestly, the rest of these people have no respect for statistical prescision.
jasmine - I was going to tell you how to create a calendar, but because you are ruining statistical integrity, I've changed my mind.

Mmmm....Movable Type is so...sexy.
Seriously. I'm jealous that 1) you have your own site that's not attached to Blogger and 2) you have the know-how to change to something as sexy and cool as MT. Dooce, one of my first favorite bloggers, uses MT and her site totally rocks. I wish were cool enough to go with MT.

Almost (*edited*) god-like, really.

Right. Well, I'd be feeling *really* stupid now if I hadn't figured out the distinction (blogger vs. blogging) before reading your explanatory comment. As it is I'm feeling only moderately stupid for not getting it sooner.
Since moderately stupid = status quo, I'm good.
