150 and 20,000
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the 150th omarphillips.net post.
The timing of this was supposed to be perfect, as it was going to coincide with the 20,000th hit. What a celebration that would have been! However, someone, who shall remain nameless, kind of went against an implied rule in the 20,000th hit contest.
This is how someone got disqualified (click the preview to see the full image). Note the amount of time between this person's hits:
Implied rule 58, section b, verses 6-7: In the event that a contest is based on page loads (or "hits"), contestants shall be disqualified from said contest if they continually refresh the page, unless there is the expectation on the contestant's part that the content of the page will be different as a result of refreshing the page. If there is doubt about the contestant's expectations, the decision will be left to the site administrator.
Well, not that there was any doubt about the expectations, but I'm the site administrator and I say that this person is disqualified. Besides, this person is already ineligible as a past contest winner.
But this is post #150. I don't want to talk about bad things, like disqualifications. The 150th post was supposed to be good. It was preemptively awarded the omarphillips.net seal of quality.

So I'll talk about something that makes me happy. Like the BlackBerry. Me and the BlackBerry went out to Tim Horton's for coffee and doughnuts this morning. It was fun. We read some emails, sent some emails, ate some tasty treats, checked the MegaMillions numbers from last night's drawing... Tonight, I'll be working on Photoshopping the BlackBerry into some of our family photos.
What's that, BlackBerry? ... No I won't say that on the internet! You're so crazy!
It's going to be a sad day when they split us apart. A sad day indeed.

This is slander! No, it's libel! This is outrageous! I will not stand for such egregious defamation of my character! Okay, I'll sit!
I said:
What do you mean? I searched this post up and down, and I don't see your name in there anywhere. Your libel claims would never stand up in court.
RaJ said:
Go Cate! Woohoo! You just keep doing what you do best: spreading discord and chaos!
Glo said:
*sigh* Once again, lost out to Cate. I've got to find less cutting-edge, clever friends. :)
Anyway, I'm glad Omar has found kismet with the Blackberry. I hope no one is so cruel as to tear them apart...that's a costly operation.

Catching up on all your 150 posts may take me an eternity. Good thing I'm on a break! So I dearly hope there is more information about Blackberry from earlier on. For I feel that I am out of the loop.

Dude, I remember your first couple of posts and you're already on 150? Have you been posting secret backdated posts or something?
Whatever the case, happy 150/20,000. Even if the 20,000 was achieved under suspicious circumstances.
(Cate, I like the way you think. Call me.)

so... how about the contest win goes to #20,059? A good random number indeed... who knows who had that hit? Lucky devil, whoever.
they were giving out free blackberries last winter for anyone that flew American... I was pumped, because I was, and then they rescinded the offer or something... all I know is that I sat berry-less all the way out to Hanover and back.

Does your wife know about all this time you're spending with the Blackberry?

omar, you know you can set that counter to only count one refresh per person per set amount of time, right? that'd take the wind right out of any hit-padders' sails, however i think shewhoshallremainnameless should get something for all that extra effort.
don't let the blackberry come between you and your loved ones. i've seen it happen and it ain't pretty.

so, as the lawyer in the house, i have to speak up.
truth is an absolute defense to a defamation (libel/slander) claim.
omar, if your stat counter is telling the truth, and i should assume it would. i mean, what reason does it have to lie? then cate has no claim. rather, she has a claim, but you have a perfect defense.
i have no further statements your honor.

RaJ - Don't encourage her.
Glo - Can you believe that someone wants to separate me and the BlackBerry? I didn't know people could be so... so heartless and mean.
katie - Previous mention of the BlackBerry here. And all 150 posts here. Take your time. :)
X - That "call me" comment is funny because you're only half kidding. Anyway, yes, it's hard to believe 150 posts already. You were one of the original visitors. Or OV's, as I like to say. Thanks.
Dem - Sorry, but the number 20,059 brings up horrible memories for me from a dark, dark time in my life.
Ant - My wife knows that my days with the BlackBerry are numbered. She allows us to have our little fling. She's very good to me.
cadiz - No I didn't! I see a setting where you can set a time interval for how long before a visitor is considered "unique" again, but that won't prevent what happened in this case. Where is it?
jas - (high five) Good to have you back in my corner.

Yeah. So. This losing to Cate thing is really starting to bug. We may not even be friends anymore. I can only take so much....

Oh - and I love the new banner. That penguin is a crackup.

Way to follow up, Glo, way to follow up.
Glo said:
I'm a very thorough person, Dem.

Haha, busted!

i could have sworn there was something on there like that, but maybe i was thinking unique visitor time length. regardless, there ought to be something like that, for the purity of science, of course. i'll have to take a spin through when i have downtime tonight.
