One for the good guys
(Photo assignment #2 is due Sunday, March 26. See the post below for details)
It's been a little while since I've done some truly cutting-edge stuff on this blog. Sorry for making you wait, but wait no more. This one's gonna blow your mind.
Over the past several weeks, I feel like I've been spending more time clearing out spam comments or editing my junk comment settings as I have actually writing. To combat this, I have implemented something I have dubbed "verification of a word." How it works, is that when you go to comment, you'll see an extra text field above the "Post" button. Above that text box is an image of a word. You'll need to type that word in the text box in order to post a comment. With this in place, spammers will not as easily be able to waste my time, and I can spend more time delivering wholesome entertainment.
Inside, you're saying, "hey moron, doesn't every Blogger user already have this on their blogs?"
No, what Blogger uses is something totally different, called "Word Verification." And in their hack of an implementation, you're not really verifying any words, just random strings of text. Honestly, it's a little insulting to me that you would consider them the same.
Anyway, the word stays the same until I decide to change it, which I may do every once in a while to keep it fun. If you ever use the comment preview button instead of just posting it, you will need to verify the word twice. But really, if you're that particular about the quality of your comments, this should be no problem for you.
If you notice any other issues, please contact the omarphillips.net customer service department. Good luck finding them, though.

i nominate 'cadiz' to be one of the anti-spamment words. just because it looks cool and is fun to say (caaaah-deez, btw). that and i'm an egomaniac.

Six hours, ZERO spam comments. I had been getting 3 or 4 per hour. EAT IT, spammers! (Though I sense this may be far more exciting to me than to the rest of you...)
Suggestion noted, cadiz.

If "cadiz" becomes one of the verification words, will it still say "type this tasty word in the box below"?

Omar, you are a genius.
BTW, I am finally getting a camera phone - so I might be able to participate in your little photo assignments after all.

Kevin? Is that you?
(Notice how I disguised the now obligatory context-related "last" name so as to not give anything away. You're welcome)

oh so the word doesn't change for every post? couldn't we have like a menu of tasty words every day? and more kosher options please, for those of us who don't eat bacon.
*you introduce food, and you get fussy people. its just the way it goes, Omar.
