Name that tune
It's time for a new quiz! Slightly different format this time, no multiple choice or true/false. This time, you'll hear a sound clip, and you have to tell the song title and the artist for each. One point will be granted for each item you get correct (for example, if you know the song title but not the artist, you get one point). There are 10 clips for a total of 20 points.
As is the case with most of my quizzes, I have no idea how difficult this is going to be. All the songs were chosen from my own iTunes playlist. I picked 5 songs each from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's. From those 25, I randomly picked 10 to use for the quiz (I'll give you a little bit of a hint by saying that all 5 songs from the 60's were chosen, while no songs from the current decade made it in - chosen randomly!).
When you finish the quiz, enter your name at the bottom and click "Submit." It sends me an email with your name and answers. I figured that would be better than having people post answers in the comments, both for ease of use and for preventing cheating.
I'll post the answers sometime Tuesday. I want to give people enough time to get to a computer with speakers, but not enough time where you can ask all your friends "what song is that?" The top point scorers will win my respect and admiration, as well as the title of "omarphillips.net name that tune champion of August 2006."
A relatively recent version of the Flash browser plugin is required. Also, a warning to dialup users: after you click the link to take the quiz, you should probably go make yourself some popcorn, make a pit stop in the bathroom, and maybe call your mom. By the time you're done with those things, the page should have completely loaded.

I just want to go on the record that I didn't know ANY of them.
But I am in deep admiration of your quiz and all the technology behind it.

Cate's in the early lead with 12/20.
My money is on X. Also I'd put a couple bucks on the X - Cadiz exacta, if gambling was allowed on omarphillips.net. But it's not. If you want in on the action, you'll have to email me.

I htink I did okay on that.
Of course, I thought I did okay on the ACTs also, so who knows?

If I don't hear lyrics, and singing, I usually can't place the tune. Omar, I'm sorry I ever accused you of being a closet Jo Jo fan. I was wrong, so wrong.

i'll join X with bringing the family shame. the ones that stung the most were the oldskool ones that were KILLING ME that i had no idea. i'm sure i've heard the one on breaking mixes many MANY times.
shame shame shame.
X, we should have gotten together to cheat.

and i don't mean it in the way that used to get featured on your blog, either, x.
X said:
You must be crazy if you think I'm going to let that soundbite go, Cadiz.

Sheesh, eclectic ipod man, a couple of those I had no idea. At all. I'd listen....nope. Listen again. No way. Some seemed very easy, but then I suddenly felt very, very old. Wait, I already was old. You just reminded me.
I, also, am in deep admiration of your ability to put such a thing together. I want to
stealborrow the idea someday. :)I said:
12 players so far, and scores of 15, 16, and 17 have been put up. Bring your A-game if you're still planning to play!

FUN! I sucked, but it was fun.
Thanks, Omar!

#4 is gonna be stuck in my head all week... if it is what I think it is...

The World Series of Pop Culture recently taught me that I don't know that much about music. I think this confirmed it.

Just to clarify: My score is 13/20. If I must lose, let the correct losing score at least be recorded.
(Still tired of "haboob" as word verification, Omar!)

Omar: I must say great job on this one, very fun. However that is not why I am posting now.
For everyone: If you haven’t tried it yet, play all the songs at once – way way to much fun.

and because I feel as though I have some catching up to do for not posting right along...
Long Live Haboob!
pad pad pad pad
and finally - DIE VOLE DIE
