I'll admit it. My cold, cold heart has warmed up as I've aged. My "show no mercy" attitude has given way to things like smiles, and... and mercy-showing. I remember a day when omarphillips.net quizzes would make Ken Jennings cower in fear, or make Alex Trebec say, "that's hard, eh?" Incorrect answers would yield disparaging feedback like, "you've shamed your family name," or "maybe you should read the question first, next time." Ah, the glory days.

But then months later, I held the first "name that tune" styled music quiz, which was won with a score of 17 out of 20 (85%). Worse yet, every answer was picked correctly by at least one person, and suddenly words like "fair" were being thrown around. Chants of "Omar the Merciful and Fair" followed me everywhere I went. Sickening.

And now, I'm sure it's about to get worse (or better, depending on your perspective): omarphillips.net music quiz version 2.0 is here. This time, I intentionally got all old-school on y'all, as there are no songs more recent than the early 80's. But they're all songs that were either fairly popular when released, or they have more recently been used in some pop culture context (e.g. movie soundtracks). Plus, the clips are slightly longer this time around, and many include lyrics.

The wife pre-screened it for me, and she got 16 out of 20 points. While she does have some prior knowledge of the kinds of music in my iTunes playlist, the two of us have rather different musical tastes. I'm always wrong when I guess how people will do, but the little remaining cold portion of my heart is afraid that a perfect score is possible...

So what are you waiting for? Go take the quiz (requires audio). Answers will be revealed on Thursday.
