Cake
This week was the week of the wife's 30th birthday. For the day, I picked up a cheesecake for the family to eat, because it's one dessert the three of us in the house can agree on.
One of her coworkers made her a chocolate cake with this wonderful peanut buttery frosting on it.
Her grandmother bought her a cookie cake.
At my work, one of my student employees made and brought in a chocolate cake yesterday because she had too many eggs in her apartment.
Also at work, there was a gathering for an employee's last day on the job. Someone made a chocolate cake with a super rich chocolate frosting and some sort of delicious fruit layer in the middle.
By my unofficial count, I have eaten 17 pieces of cake (of various sizes) in the past three and a half days.
This may have been the best week ever.
And there's still more cheesecake and "last day on the job" cake left.

I don't know if I'll ever be in a situation where I say to myself, "Holy crud! I've got way too many eggs... If I don't start baking some cakes, and fast, we're going to have a serious problem!"
I can only imagine that this person had in excess of 150 eggs.
I may be back later with more hypotheses on this excessive egg situation...

You ate Cake?!!? Is this why there will never be a suitable follow-up to 'Going The Distance,' and 'Short Skirt/LongJacket?'

oh, and having too many eggs is a perfectly acceptable reason to make a chocolate cake. in fact, there are few unacceptable reasons for chocolate cake, in my opinion. like right now - right now is a perfectly acceptable occasion for chocolate cake.
wow - for some reason, i could really go for some chocolate cake...

I don't know if I will get to eat 17 pieces, but the daughter's birthday party is this weekend and I am anticipating (hoping) for lots of left over cake and cupcakes.
Happy Birthday Omar's wife!

Happy birthday to the wife! And I absolutely, positively want some cake.
Also I want to compliment you on the site redesign, and not just because I can now load your page in Safari running on Windows 2000. Although that is a plus.

Too many eggs as a reason for making a chocolate cake. I'll have to remember that. In fact, now that I think about it, I may have used that excuse myself back in my college days. Anything to avoid doing homework, you know.

Wish I suffered from the same 'cake problems' as you!
I love the new look- especially the duck!

happy birthday, The Wife!
i also think the extra eggs thing is weird. if we're talking banana bread (yum) because of too many bananas around (yuck), then that makes perfect sense to me. but eggs? does that person just not like eggs? is she about to go on some kind of vacation? is she just trying to suck up to the boss?

Comment The First : Happy Birthday The Wife! Many happy returns.
Comment The Second : Love the new template, Omar. The header is way cool. IS that you're phone? Are you a Sony Ericsson man too? Kewl.
Comment The Third : I think all those cakes are a sign you should pick up baking again. I miss Pie of The Month! Cake of the Month sounds just as yummy.
Comment The Fourth : You used to have polls right? Or was I just dreaming it all? And no more sortable links? Wasn't the favouritest of my omarphillips.net features, but it was innovative and cutting edge. Not that you still aren't (I've needed 5 band aids since I got here), I'm just wonderin' about the changes.

What in the heck is wrong with me? Let me rephrase, for my own grammatical sanity : Is that your phone?

That's like the best 30th birthday ever. It's almost like a cake party on its own.
I really like your new top banner thing. It's has all the basic Fun Omar elements.

Happy birthday to your wife, and many happy cakes!
Love the new look. That header keeps surprising me with more happy memories.

Thanks all, re: the site changes.
Syar, the poll was axed a few revisions ago. Sortable links I liked, but they were very code-heavy and I could never think of a good way to make it obvious that they were sortable.
