And that Chich'en Itzá place
One of the things the boy got for Christmas this year was this globe (he's a budding geography nerd). While it doesn't attempt to label many countries (it does label all of the continents), those it does label are indicated by the text of the country's name, plus a small image indicating something about that country. For example, there are two such labels for the United States, one picturing the Statue of Liberty, the other picturing a cowboy boot. (Little publicized fact: Out here on the east coast, we assume all of you west of the Mississippi are cowboys who ride horses to work and frequent saloons.) Here are some of the other images, including one that had us laughing:

So in Mexico, I can find a Mexican. Good to know. There are so few countries labeled on this globe, you'd think that if they couldn't come up with a landmark or symbol for a country, they'd just skip it. Or they could take the opportunity to highlight a "lesser known" landmark, like one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. In my head, I keep imagining the design meeting where someone pitched the idea that for Mexico, they should find an illustration of a Mexican. It's comical every time.

lol. we got max a playmobil airplane and in it was the pilot (of course)..and a cowboy. like whoever made the airplane considers all americans are cowboys. which cracks me up.

Germany's known for St Nikalaus Day? Really? I guess all that other stuff couldn't fit onto the small puzzle piece.

Please tell me that is your best photo shop job ever. Althought I'm guessing this one is real.

i sincerely hope the people who make this globe are not in charge of determining the future of our country's curriculum.

I'm spitting everywhere with bursts of extreme chortling.
CHORTLING, Omar!
I immediately made my Mexi-man Papi look at it. I say that the toy is inaccurate. It should have the sombrero Mexican dude for the symbol of the United States! :) And a picture of old American retired people for the Mexico symbol.

I also noticed Germany's tag - are they the only country to have St. Nikalaus Day? Doesn't everyone know about jolly old St. Nick?
And I like EWBL's comment on where you can really find Mexicans. Definitely true!

If that wasn't photoshopped I'm going to crap my pants.

At first glance I thought my Mexican hombre friend was pulling a Mr. T look and had his neck encircled by a glut of gold chains. But now I think it just might be a golden kerchief.
Omar, are you just going to sit there or are you going to get Christian a fresh pair of pants already?

I bet the Mayans are pissed. They went and left cool ruins all over Mexico but no one cares because Mexicans have cool sombreros.
Oh - and the Blog God Awards Committee was amused by your headline.
I said:
I can assure you all that I only used Photoshop to crop this photo. The Mexican in Mexico is real.

I can't wait for the results on the boy's first geography test. I'm sure this will allow him to skip several grades.
