Miscellany
I'm mad that the Giants won the Super Bowl. When I'm watching Super Bowl LV with my kid, I'm not going to get to brag about getting to see the best all around team I've ever seen finish a season with no losses. The Giants took that moment from me. They ruined a good father-son moment. Moment ruiners.
Speaking of the boy and the Super Bowl, he was asleep before Tom Brady stepped on the field. He did, however, watch the singing of the national anthem. For whatever reason, he loves the national anthem. He can sing the whole thing (though sometimes he will repeat verses). Today, he asked me if he could watch the national anthem on TV again. It made me very proud, but also a little sad. He didn't want to watch football, he wanted to watch the national anthem. Looks like I still have some work to do.
I went to The Cheesecake Factory for the first time last week. Never in the history of my life have I struggled so hard with a decision as much as I did when I had to choose one of their 30 flavors of cheesecake (they have more, but at least one is seasonal and a few are subtle variations). I settled on Dulce de Leche Caramel Cheesecake. My initial reaction was that I wanted to marry it. Subsequent phone calls and internet research have shown that this plan was not feasible. Instead, I have made it my goal to try each flavor at least once. Originally I was hoping to do it within a calendar month, but I figured that it would not be fiscally or waistally prudent for me to do that. So now my goal is to try them all by the end of '08. Even that is ambitious, as it will require getting one every week and a half. I fully expect to have an intricate website up within the week, detailing the status of my quest.
I very infrequently discuss politics, but for the first time ever, I'm actually excited about voting on Super Tuesday.
I went to a non-mall optometrist today. It went well, I'll actually have contact lenses that permit me to see, which is a step up from my last set. Additionally, I'll be updating my glasses, which are 8-ish years old. I learned something about myself while I was there, courtesy of a consultant they have working there to help people pick out frames - I have bad taste. The lady vetoed my first three choices, and ultimately suggested that I bring my wife with me next time. Ouch.

i went to costco to get new glasses (because i snapped mine in half at the bridge) and while standing there waiting for her to ring up my order i thought of your mall optometrist and the fact that i was in a costco optometrist. which somehow has to be the epitomy of one stop shopping optometrist locations.
as for the superbowl, i was rooting for the patriots. not because i have any idea what kind of a team they are, but because i heard on npr about their "one game at a time" mantra to hopefully becoming the record breaking 19-0 team.
sorry that you have sucky taste in eyeglasses. but your wife probably does know best.

And this super bowl thing you mention is...?
=P Ok, sorry about those football people ruining your male bonding time. This is why I don't watch it.
Hey, I'd leave all fashion decisions to your wife. It's just a fact of life.

I'm glad that you have good, attainable goals. My husband and I have a similar one. We have to use up $50 at this local ice cream store before we move in July. It's all about priorities.

I was more than happy to see the Patriots Lose the Super Bowl. That's how I like to think of it. I'll never talk about how the Giants won, I'll only talk about how the Patriots lost and it was glorious. It was the ultimate karmic b*tch-slap for getting caught cheating at the beginning of the season.
Personal bias aside, it was still a great game. I don't think there was a single second during the entire game that wasn't worth watching. It was easily one of the best games of the year, and for the Super Bowl, that's pretty refreshing.
Back to personal bias, does anyone know where I can buy a "19-0 New England Patriots World Champions" shirt? I want to mock them for as long as I possibly can. Anyone that thinks I'm over that last second field goal that helped the Patriots beat my Rams back in '02 is DEAD wrong!

I always find it amusing when I go to pick out new frames. Without my glasses on everything is fuzzy, I don’t have contacts, so I usually have no idea what I’m trying on. I learned early on; I either need to bring someone with me, or let the cute (remember without my glasses everything is fuzzy) lady at the store help me.

I've never been to the Cheesecake Factory. :(

Maybe The Boy will be a singer and not an athlete. You'll still love him, right?

How good of a singer?

i didn't want to watch the Patriots win, and because all my sources were shaking their heads and saying it would probably happen, i didn't watch the game. i'm still sort of sick of hearing about them. sorry omar.
They have t-shirts, Jon, but they say 18-1.
someone i know is going to get one because the '85 bears (an excellent team in my opinion, but i'm biased) were also 18-1 that year.

It's okay to have your wife help you with your glasses. She is the one who looks at you. I picked out my husband's glasses.
I always cheer on the underdog. It was a great game! But it is sort of sad to end like that. The players handled it better than their sore loser coach.

I hope your gym membership is current if you are going to be eating that much at The Cheesecake Factory. Their food is GOOD, but oh the calories!

never been to the cheesecake factory, because I have an addictive personality, coupled with a fear of being a size 36W from the fat lady store.

Omar, your cheesecake eating ambitions make me feel puffed up with pride that I am your bloggy friend. I too have made the vow to try them all, and then wussed out in the end because I can't seem to order anything but the brownie sundae cheesecake. If you accomplish this goal I shall send you...a slice of cheesecake.

Thoughts of its creamy scrumptiousness are dancing in my brain, mocking me because there is none in sight! (Sob!)
I love to hear the national anthem being performed...I often shed a tear of pride, unless the singer murders it!

Papi and I tried Cheesecake Factory for the first ever last year and I was anything but impressed. 6-8 bucks for a piece of cheesecake is a lot and I found a piece of wax paper stuck right in the middle. After I bit into it and chewed it up, of course.

I've had similar ambitions when I discovered French Chicken at Burger King (after which my ambition to try ever burger there was moot because I had eyes for only one sandwich) and being brainwashed by the chilli cheeseburger ads for Carl's Jr. Sadly, they charge about 20 bucks a burger over here. Damn exchange rates.

I love cheesecake factory. The Key Lime one is pretty tasty if I might say so. I haven't been in so long though, we don't have one very close to where I live! :(
That is quite the goal to try them all before 2008 is over. I think if I tried to do that I would be 50 lbs heavier. Not a good story for me to tell.

I actually had a caramel covered cheesecake this morning for breakfast. Not Cheesecake Factory, but very sufficiently yummy. I believe you made an excellent choice: Dulche de Leche Caramel Cheesecake: my mouth waters as I type.
And I'm proud of the Boy for liking the anthem. There's a future for him in foreign relations. Or at least in Woody Allen plays.

I remain incapable of Superbowl discussion. I was just that disappointed. I am just that resentful. It was my sports moment and the stupid Giants ruined it...I hate their MVP and all their stupid Superbowl rings.

Try the Pumpkin next...or the Key Lime. Both are delish.
So what is up with you living in NY and not being a Giants fan?
